FLATS
Buildings dissolve into colour, pattern, and interconnected forms, revealing the hidden rhythms that shape city life.
Flats are the moments when the apparent chaos of city life reveals order.
Blå Natt City
25.5" W x 35.5" H
Acrylic on canvas
Blå Natt City explores the city after dark, when buildings become blocks of shadow and illuminated windows create their own patterns across the skyline. Layers of tightly packed architecture fill the canvas, while repeated lines and dots bring order and rhythm to the density of the city.
Part of the Flats series, the painting continues my fascination with the structure found within seemingly chaotic urban environments. Buildings overlap, compete for space and differ in shape and scale, yet repetition creates a visual system that holds everything together. The restricted palette of blues and dark tones shifts the focus toward the light, the countless windows and architectural details that make a city feel active even when viewed from a distance.

Blå City
25.5" W x 35.5" H
Acrylic on canvas
The title comes from the Swedish word for blue, reflecting the palette that defines the mood of the piece. Blå City was inspired by observing cities as living systems, where countless individual structures combine to create something larger and more interconnected. The cooler tones allowed me to focus on the quieter side of urban life, where patterns and relationships emerge from density and repetition.
At first glance it appears crowded and complex, but with time the composition reveals balance and rhythm. I enjoy the idea of viewers finding their own pathways through the city and uncovering details that may have been missed at first.
The flattened perspective removes the distractions of realism and emphasizes the patterns hidden within the cityscape. By limiting the palette to shades of blue and grey, I was able to focus attention on structure, repetition, and the relationships between forms.

Grön City
36" W x 48" H
Acrylic on canvas
A window catches the light. A traffic signal changes. Someone disappears through a doorway. Another person appears from somewhere else. Life happens behind walls, between buildings and above the street, mostly unnoticed by everyone else.
Grön City takes its name from its palette, but green also felt fitting for a city that is constantly changing and growing. New structures appear, old ones disappear, and the spaces between them continue to fill with movement.
Nothing in a city exists entirely on its own.
The smallest detail belongs to something larger.

Sol City
11.8" W x 31.5" H
Acrylic on canvas
Sol City is the city golden hour. When the sun sets over the city, reflecting hues of orange onto buildings, creating a layered sun scale that winds down the energy of the day in preparation for the evening buzz. This piece from the Flats series captures the second calm before the city storm, when most people have left their shifts and moved to preparing for the evening.
I poured vibrant energy into this geometric cityscape, blending warm reds, yellows, and oranges to evoke the pulse of urban life. Using acrylics, I built layers of shapes that celebrate both structure and rhythm, capturing the bustle and harmony of a thriving metropolis. This piece radiates a dynamic, lively spirit that will spark vibrancy and warmth wherever it’s displayed.

Lila City
24" W x 20" H
Acrylic on canvas
The title comes from the Swedish word for purple, reflecting the palette that shapes the mood of the piece. Lila City was inspired by walks through cities and the moments when apparent chaos suddenly reveals structure. Streets, buildings, and pathways briefly align into patterns that feel both complex and harmonious.
I hope viewers are initially drawn in by the colour and energy of the painting, then begin to discover the patterns and relationships hidden within it. From a distance, the city can appear busy and overwhelming, but on closer inspection there is a sense of order and connection. I like the idea that each viewer might find their own route through the image.
Acrylic allows me to create bold, vibrant colour and crisp geometric forms. Rather than depicting a specific city, I wanted to capture the feeling of urban complexity and those fleeting moments when order emerges from it.

Strössel City
32" W x 12" H
Acrylic on canvas
Strössel City is an ode to the vibrant energy of urban life through a kaleidoscope of colour and pattern. Buildings stack, overlap, and interact like pieces of a puzzle, creating a cityscape that feels both playful and complex. Beneath the visual intensity lies an underlying structure, inviting viewers to discover order within the apparent chaos. The title comes from the Swedish word strössel, meaning sprinkles, a reference to the colourful palette used throughout the painting.
I hope viewers are drawn in by the colour and playfulness of the piece before beginning to notice the patterns and connections that hold it together.
Acrylic is ideal for achieving the strong colour contrasts and crisp shapes that define this series.
